F.A.Q.
----- What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an important branch of traditional Chinese medicine,
which is based on a history, philosophy, and sociology very different from that of the Western medicine. Over the last 3,000 years
it has developed a unique understanding of the workings of the body. It can be used for treating a very wide range of diseases.
-----How Does Acupuncture Work?
Oriental medicine holds that energy, or "Qi", circulates throughout
the body in pathways or meridians. When there is balance, the energy flows smoothly and there is vibrant health. When the body is
imbalanced, blockages arise and manifest themselves as tender points along the meridians. Blocked points create illnesses. Acupuncture
needles are placed in such a way as to free up the blockages, allowing a smooth flow of energy. In this way, health and balance are
restored to whole body.
In short, acupuncture stimulates and awakens the inherent healing
processes of the body to restore health and well-being. Increased energy, mental clarity, and a peaceful state of relaxation are some
of the common benefits obtained through acupuncture.
----- Is Acupuncture Painful?
Acupuncture needles are nothing like the hypodermic needles used to give injections. They are much thinner, about the width of a human
hair (or even smaller). When a skilled acupuncturist inserts the needles, there is usually no pain at all; occasionally the sensation
may be like a brief mosquito bite. Most of the time patients find the treatments extremely relaxing, and often fall asleep.
-----Is Acupuncture Safe?
Acupuncture is extremely safe. All inserted needles are factory sterilized
and then immediately disposed of after use. A licensed acupuncturist is required to undergo rigorous testing and have about 1,000
hours of clinical training prior to receiving a licence. So, in the hands of a licensed acupuncturist, your safety is assured.
